February
Chrysalis organised a workshop which was presented by Dr Jenny Horsman - a Canadian lecturer in community learning, looking especially at victims of domestic violence and the way they learn. This was in partnership with Lancaster University. The workshop was held at Blackburn House and was well attended by people working in the field of domestic violence
Chrysalis embarked upon a research project in conjunction with Lancaster University to identify women's educational needs and how they could be met for our adult service users and volunteers. Lancaster University are looking at the long- term effects that domestic violence has on learners. Service users gave accounts of their own personal experiences in the hope that it would help others and felt privilege to have taken part.
The research was carried out by Yvon Appleby.
June
We launched Project Chrysalis!
The launch was a great success and was opened by the Right Honourable Jane Kennedy MP, with guest of honour Edward Murphy OBE (Liverpool Network for Change). Presentations were given by Inspector Kevin Wellens of Merseyside Police.
We were also honoured by the presence of Chief Inspector Frank Youell who kindly came along in support of Chrysalis. This raised awareness of domestic violence and the profile of our organisation. Jean Bond; author of Behind the Masks gave a presentation called "Stop Hurting".
Sue Hall and the lovely Dee presented their troupe of over 40 belly dancers - which lightened up the whole evening.
September
Chrysalis took part in Five Arts Cities, a project which gave our volunteers and service users the opportunity of creating a "work of art" which was displayed at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.
During the same period, Chrysalis also attained the Charity Commission's Practical Quality Assurance System for Small Organisations (PQASSO).
